BrokenHollywood Mountain

This is for andrew and whoever else it was that i was talking with about that movie "Brokenback Mountain." Just in case you were still wondering...

Yes the movie is about two guys (portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger) who go on a cattle drive together and become a little friendlier than any of us would want to see! (And if you would like to see that kind of junk, please do not tell me!)

Maybe i'm just stubborn or ignorant, but WHY? Has our society really deteriorated that much? Why would anyone want to see that nastiness? I'm sorry if I am stepping on any toes, but last time I checked, no one who reads this post is in any way swinging in that direction!

OK...I just felt that andrew and Leah (?) would like to know what i found out. Now i have to go make sure i can play my etudes while sick! Since ATSSB is tomorrow and all!

Whether we want to see it or not is not the question.

Ah, yes, there's the question: "Has our society really deteriorated that much?"
The answer: It's true that our society is at that level, but I don't feel like we've dropped there necessarily. We've always been there, we're just expressing it more now. Just turn on the TV, watch the news, and tell me about that nastiness. Does that mean that we, the public, should not be informed about what people do in our society. Does that mean that we should not be educated about the monstrocities of humanity throughout history just because we don't want to see it, or because it portrays a society that is so below our desired level it's considered disgusting or even demonic in some cases. Here I'm obviously thinking of the Holocaust, but there are many other things. Yes, you are specifically talking about a movie, but I'm just taking your statements to their logical extremes. Should children not be told about sexual predators? What about murderous cults? Serial killers? Terrorist groups? What do we really want to see?
Society doesn't know what it wants to see; we don't even know what we need to see, but most of it falls in the "don't want" category. The world isn't some game where you can choose the level or a show where you can cover your eyes during the scary parts.

I just thought I'd leave you with a couple thoughts on this subject. No, I'm not "swinging in that direction".

nor am I swinging in that direction, but subject matter aside, I'd still like to see the movie. This is not the first time our society has decided to make a movie centering on homosexuals. The one that first comes to mind is The Birdcage.
